Package travel organiser Mixx Travel was declared bankrupt on 31 July 2025. The company had a statutory security lodged with the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA), from which customers of the Finnish branch of Mixx Travel can apply for reimbursement for package travel services not provided.
At the time of the bankruptcy, Mixx Travel had over 100 Finnish customers on trips in countries such as Turkey and Greece.
If You Are Currently Travelling
Scheduled Flights
Travellers with scheduled flights are advised to confirm their return flight details directly with the airline. According to information received by the FCCA, some scheduled flights booked through Mixx Travel have been cancelled.
If you have received advance notice that the scheduled flight included in your package has been cancelled, or if you are not allowed to board the flight at check-in or later, you will need to arrange a replacement return flight at your own expense. You can apply for reimbursement from the security lodged with the FCCA.
Charter Flights
Mixx Travel’s charter flights are most likely cancelled. In such cases, travellers must arrange their own return flights, ensuring that they correspond as closely as possible to the original travel plans. These costs may be reimbursed from the FCCA’s security.
Accommodation and Extended Stay
If your stay at the destination is prolonged due to the situation, you may claim reimbursement for the additional hotel accommodation until your return journey. Be sure to retain all receipts and proof of payment. Only reasonable costs will be reimbursed, so please avoid unnecessary expenses such as luxury hotels or business class flights.
Travellers are not required to make additional payments for hotel nights that have already been paid through Mixx Travel. Inform the hotel that the accommodation has already been settled. If you have already paid, or if you find that additional payment is unavoidable due to the situation, be sure to keep the receipt for your reimbursement claim.
The FCCA has provided guidance to affected travellers via text message and email.
If Your Trip Has Not Yet Taken Place
If you have purchased a future trip from Mixx Travel, the trip will not be carried out. You can claim reimbursement for any advance payments made.
If you have only partially paid for the trip, you are not required to pay the remaining amount. The credit provider cannot demand the unpaid balance, as the cancellation is due to the organiser’s breach of contract.
If you paid for your trip with credit, you may request a refund directly from your credit provider. This is often a quicker way to receive reimbursement than claiming through the FCCA. Note, however, that the credit provider is not required to refund more than the amount it received as payment.
Other Possible Compensation
In some cases, travellers may be entitled to standard compensation or damages from the airline. The airline’s liability will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Please note that the same costs cannot be reimbursed twice. For example, you cannot be repaid for a replacement flight from both the FCCA and the airline.
How to Apply for reimbursement from the FCCA
Reimbursement claims should primarily be made using the FCCA’s online application. If you are unable to use the online tool, you can request a paper form by emailing konkurssit@kkv.fi. Paper forms should be returned by post to:
Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority
PO Box 5
FI-00531 Helsinki
The deadline for submitting a claim is six months from the date of the bankruptcy.
If your trip was booked through Mixx Travel’s Finnish branch and your booking confirmation is in Finnish, you should claim with the FCCA. Customers in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway should submit their claims to Kammarkollegiet in Sweden. Claims should be filed as soon as possible, as Kammarkollegiet’s deadline is shorter than that of the FCCA.
What Costs Are Covered by the FCCA’s Security?
You can apply for reimbursement for the following expenses:
- Advance payments made by the traveller and the unused portion of interrupted package travel
- Gift cards with a monetary value used to purchase a package travel service
- Return travel and accommodation at the destination until the return journey, if the package included accommodation
What Is Not Covered?
The following will not be reimbursed from the FCCA’s security:
- Individual travel services (e.g. flights only)
- Day trips lasting under 24 hours without accommodation
- Financial loss due to lost working time
- Travel insurance
- Visa costs
- Vaccination expenses
- Compensation for loss of enjoyment or inconvenience caused by a disrupted holiday
