Subscription traps

A subscription trap means that you are misled to concluding a long-term subscription contract, under which the seller sends you invoices or debits your account.

A subscription trap means that you are misled to concluding a long-term subscription contract, under which the seller sends you invoices or debits your account. In practice, this is done by offering you a cheap one-off order or a small one-off payment or, for example, by persuading you to take part in a prize draw.

You are caught in a subscription trap if an order you placed or a payment you made leads to a long-term contract about which the seller did not tell you clearly, or at all. In addition to placing a one-off order, you can be caught in the trap by participating in online draws, competitions or surveys. You can come across subscription traps in telemarketing and online sales.
