FCCA approves acquisition of Academic Bookstore by Bonnier

On 24 September 2015, the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA) approved an acquisition whereby Bonnier Books Retail Finland Ltd, part of the Bonnier Media Group, will acquire the businesses of Academic Bookstore from Stockmann plc.

Bonnier is a publishing house which is also engaged in book retailing through online and traditional bookstores. In the future, Academic Bookstore will have bookstores in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Turku and Tampere, as well as the online store akateeminen.com. The FCCA is of the view that the acquisition will not significantly impede effective competition in the Finnish market or a substantial part of it.

The FCCA’s decision includes the business secrets of the parties involved. The decision can only be published after the confidential information has been removed, which will take approximately two weeks.
