Repair Services and the European Repair Information Form
Before concluding a contract for a repair service, a trader providing repair services may provide the consumer with a European Repair Information Form.
The European Repair Information Form is a standardised form through which a repair service provider may give the consumer information on the key conditions of the repair before the contract is concluded. The content of the form is laid down in a decree of the Ministry of Justice (in finnish).
Providing the Repair Information Form
Providing the Repair Information Form is voluntary.
However, using the form is a useful way to ensure that the consumer receives the information required by law before the contract is concluded.
The repair service provider may refuse to provide the form even if the consumer requests it. Even if the form is not provided, the repair service provider must comply with the information requirements laid down in the Consumer Protection Act.

If the Repair Information Form Is Provided
The form must be provided:
- free of charge
- If estimating the repair costs requires separate diagnostics, the trader may charge the necessary costs incurred. This requires that the consumer has been informed of those costs in advance.
- on a durable medium, such as by email or on paper
- within a reasonable time of the consumer’s request
- before the contract for the repair service becomes binding on the consumer.
Binding Nature of the Repair Information Form
The trader may not alter the repair conditions stated in the form for 30 calendar days from the date on which the form was provided.
The trader and the consumer may also agree on a longer period of validity.
If the consumer accepts the conditions set out in the form during its period of validity, the trader must carry out the repair in accordance with those conditions.
What Information Must Be Included in the Repair Information Form?
The following information must be provided in the European Repair Information Form in a clear and comprehensible manner:
- the name of the trader providing the repair services
- the trader’s geographical address, telephone number, email address and any other available online communication tools enabling the consumer to contact and communicate with the trader quickly, efficiently and easily
- the goods to be repaired
- the nature of the defect and the proposed repair method
- the price or, where the price cannot reasonably be calculated in advance, the method used to calculate the price and the maximum cost of the repair
- the time needed to complete the repair
- the availability of temporary replacement goods during the repair and any costs that may be incurred by the consumer for such replacement goods
- the place where the consumer is to hand over the goods for repair
- where applicable, the availability of removal, installation and transport services and any other ancillary services offered by the trader, together with any costs that may be incurred by the consumer for those services
- the period of validity of the form
- where applicable, any additional information.
