Increase in gas transmission charge investigated

On 1 January 2016, Aurora Kaasunjakelu Oy implemented a high one-time increase in the tariff rates of gas distribution for stove users. For instance, the distribution charge for consumers who have a fixed price Kotiliesi agreement will increase by approximately EUR 47.50 per year, which corresponds to around 47 per cent.  The Consumer Ombudsman has been contacted by consumers, claiming that the price hikes by the gas distribution company Aurora are excessive. The Consumer Ombudsman monitors the contract terms between gas distribution companies and consumers in general, in order to guarantee consumer protection. The reasonableness of gas distribution pricing is monitored retrospectively by the Energy Authority, in four-year periods.

The Consumer Ombudsman is investigating the matter and will consider whether further action should be taken.
