Supervisory duties of the Consumer Ombudsman

The Consumer Ombudsman supervises compliance with several laws and regulations that protect the consumer. The Consumer Ombudsman also cooperates with various authorities both nationally and internationally.

The Consumer Ombudsman has supervisory duties based on several laws. However, the fundamental basis of the Consumer Ombudsman’s supervisory activities lies in its power of general competence as the authority overseeing compliance with the Consumer Protection Act. This supervisory power also covers transactions between consumers and traders which are subject to a separate provision on supervision by the Consumer Ombudsman under special legislation.

The Consumer Ombudsman has parallel supervisory powers with some special supervisory authorities. The legislation also contains specific obligations for cooperation between authorities.
