The tour operator Kristina Cruises was declared insolvent on 13 January, 2014. Customers can apply for reimbursement for cancelled travel plans from a guarantee in the possession of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.
If you have paid for the trip directly to Kristina Cruises, or if the travel agency that sold you the tour has already transferred the money there, send an electronic reimbursement application to the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.
If you have bought your trip from some other travel agency, please contact the travel agency. You will be reimbursed from there if the agent has not yet transferred the funds to Kristina Cruises.
If you have paid for your travel by credit card, you can apply for the money that you paid for the cancelled travel from the grantor of your credit - the credit card company or bank that issued the credit card.
If you have paid your travel by debit card, you can also ask about reimbursement from your bank, if you wish the guarantee. Most banks follow the principles concerning the reimbursements for credit card payment in connection with debit card payments as well.
If you do not have the possibility to use the electronic form, you may ask for a paper form from the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (tel. +358 29 505 3193 / firstname.lastname@example.org).
The applications for reimbursement must be delivered to the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority no later than 22 April 2014 by 4:15 PM. Decision-making on reimbursement will begin after that.
What costs are eligible for reimbursement?
It is possible to apply for reimbursement for the following costs from the guarantee in the possession of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority:
- Deposits paid by consumers and in the case of interrupted travel, the proportion of the tour that was left unused.
- Purchased gift certificates entitling the bearer to a package tour.
- Passengers' return travel and accommodation in the destination until the return travel is arranged, if accommodation was included in the tour.
What costs are not eligible for reimbursement?
The security fund does not compensate for e.g.
- Economic loss for lost time at work
- Travel insurance
- Vaccination costs
- Remuneration for grief over a spoiled holiday
- Tour packages purchased at the travel destination
The guarantee also does not compensate for travel in which the payer is a company, or for gift certificates given for free for promotional purposes.
