FCCA halts investigation into VR Group’s domestic freight transport

The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority’s (FCCA) investigations provided no basis for continuing the investigation.

In October 2012, Fenniarail Ltd (formerly Proxion) submitted a request for action, concerning VR-Group Ltd, to the FCCA. In its request for action, Fenniarail alleged that VR-Group was abusing its dominant market position in rail freight transport by refusing to offer Fenniarail Ltd a service comprising the locomotive fleet and drivers needed for the operation of freight wagons.

Fenniarail Oy cancelled its request for action during the first half of 2015. Furthermore, the FCCA’s own examination of the matter give no grounds for continuing with the investigation. However, the FCCA is still investigating another case, concerning VR’s procedures in relation to freight transport between Finland and Russia.
